811 – Better Care Starts Here

Are you experiencing health problems? Do you need to consult a medical professional because your child is sick? Are you in need of mental health support?

811 offers several potential alternatives to the Emergency Department and provides free, confidential counselling with four options to meet your needs.

Info-Santé (Option 1)
Health advice for everyone. Choosing option 1 promptly puts you in touch with a nurse, in case of a non-urgent health problem. The nurse can also provide recommendations for self-care at home or refer you to the service that best meets your needs.

For a serious problem or emergency, do not hesitate to call 911 or go directly to the Emergency Department.

Pediatric line (Option 1)
You can speak with a nurse to get advice for your child (newborn to 17 years old). The nurse can also make an appointment on your behalf with a medical professional.

Info-Social (Option 2)
Psychosocial and mental health advice. An Info-Social counsellor can speak with you about a psychosocial or mental health concern. Parents of children from newborn to 17 who are experiencing a major family crisis can also reach the CAFE (teen and family youth crisis) team by choosing this option 24/7.

People waiting for a family doctor (Option 3)
If you are waiting for a family doctor or are registered with a family medicine group, this line (Primary Care Access Point) is reserved for you and gives you access to the service that best meets your needs.

Need a family doctor?
If so, please register with the Quebec Family Doctor Finder (GAMF) by calling 1-877-644-4545, or online at: gamf.gouv.qc.ca.

Many other online services are also available, including:

-    Accessing the  Primary Care Access Point (GAP) for advice
-     Scheduling an appointment online
-     Finding a clinic that offers same-day or next-day medical appointments
-     Registering with a family doctor
